The IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Con no gi International 2023 took place on September 1st, 2023 and several top no gi grapplers competed at the event. Several of the athletes stood on top of the podium wouldn’t have looked out of place at a major IBJJF event or even an ADCC world championships. Lucas ‘Hulk’ Barbosa was the biggest name signed up to compete and he was coming in on good form after winning two gold medals in the gi edition of the event shortly before. He couldn’t repeat that success this time around though, as he had to settle for a silver medal in his weight class and a bronze medal in the absolute division.
Pedro Rocha beat him in the final of the heavyweight division and the finalists in the absolute were Timothy Dawson and Eduardo Zimic, both of whom finished in third place at heavyweight. There were some big names competing at ultra-heavyweight too, as Arnaldo Maidana beat Pedro Alex in the final of the division. There was great action in the women’s divisions too, particularly at lightweight where Morgan Black won gold. It was actually Deise Leonanjo who won the biggest prize though, as she took home gold medals at both medium-heavyweight and the absolute division.
