Registration has closed for the IBJJF European Championship 2025 and it’s set to be the biggest edition of the tournament ever. The event holds a special place in the heart of every elite gi competitor because it takes place right at the start of the calendar year. Not only is it the first opportunity for anyone to win an IBJJF major every year, but it’s also the first step on the road to a grand slam. That’s one of the most coveted achievements in the sport and only a select few are ever capable of travelling the world and winning all four major IBJJF events.

Even for those who don’t manage to win a grand slam, Euros is the first opportunity to get experience at the highest level and can often be a key part of preparation for the IBJJF World Championship just a few months later. 2025 is no exception to that of course, and this is one of those years that will attract even more competitors than normal thanks to the fact that ADCC is not taking place. That usually results in many competitors focusing on gi tournaments instead, particularly because the first opportunities to compete in ADCC Trials are still several months away.

This has all worked together beautifully to mean that the IBJJF European Championship 2025 will have the biggest brackets we’ve ever seen. There are over 6,000 competitors registered for the tournament across all belt levels and age brackets, but even the adult black belt divisions are going to be packed. There are over 200 of the best grapplers in the world signed up for their respective weight classes and the men’s lightweight division is particularly busy, with 27 competitors ready to step on the mats. Once the show begins on January 17th, 2025 there will be non-stop action throughout the entire week leading up to the black belt finals.

The biggest ever edition of the IBJJF European Championship will be available to watch live on January 17th to 25th, 2025 on FloGrappling, click here to subscribe and watch.
