The results of the IBJJF Brazilian National Championship 2023 are in after the event took place between April 29th and May 7th, and the event attracted some of the best BJJ black belts on the planet to compete. They were competing at practically every age division as well, as Rafael Lovato Jr was one of the most notable names to stand on the podium after winning the super-heavyweight master 1 division. There were several storylines to emerge from the event, one of the biggest being that Tainan Dalpra continued his run this year and edged that little bit closer to his first grand slam. This means that the gi he’s arranged to auction off for charity is set to be worth a decent amount.
Gabrieli Pessanha continued her perfect year as well with another two gold medals, and she’s well on her way to making history by winning her weight and the absolute in every IBJJF major tournament in one year. Victor Hugo achieved the same feat and left the tournament with gold medals in the absolute division and at ultra-heavyweight, while Victor Honorio stood on the podium of both after a very impressive return to the highest level of competition.
