The IBJJF Brazilian National Championship 2023 is going to take place between April 29th and May 7th and the official brackets for every division have now been released. As always, this is set to be one of the most exciting tournaments of the IBJJF calendar year and there are plenty of elite grapplers who’ve signed up to compete. Nothing can really be guaranteed after the first round of a stacked tournament like this, but there are several top competitors who stand out as the most likely winners of their respective divisions. Some of them have tough matchups in the opening rounds though and fans will no doubt be treated to some great moments in the opening rounds.

One of the most exciting matches in the roosterweight division will be taking place very early on, as Lucas Pinheiro and one of Melqui Galvao Jiu-Jitsu’s top talents, Welison Nascimento, will be meeting in the opening round. Nascimento isn’t the only one of that team’s top competitors who has a tough opening round matchup either. At lightweight Matheus Ferreira will have a really tough challenge against one of the favourites to win the division, Natan Chueng. There are plenty of other exciting matches littered around too, as Gabriel Costa has been in good form leading into the IBJJF Brazilian National Championship 2023 and the brackets have resulted in him facing Alex Munis in the opening round at medium-heavyweight.

There’s plenty of action early on in the women’s divisions too, particularly at middleweight where Elisabeth Clay v Graciele Del Fava and Thalyta Silva v Amanda Hening are both happening in the first round. Shortly before that in the lightweight division, Thaynara Bandeira and Brianna Ste-Marie will meet immediately. Later on in the day Thaynara Dias and Vedha Toscano will meet on one side of the heavyweight bracket, while Tamiris Silva and Jeane Rafaelly battle it out on the other side. While these are opening round matches featuring the biggest names, fans watching the event will also get to see elite competitors like Tainan Dalpra and Gabrieli Pessanha attempting to reconfirm their places at the top of their respective divisions.

The full breakdown of the brackets for every belt and age level of the IBJJF Brazilian National Championship 2023 can be found here.
