The IBJJF Brasileiro (Brazilian National Championship) 2024 has just made history by breaking the record for the biggest kid’s tournament the promotion has ever arranged. The kid’s version of the event is scheduled for June 22nd and 23rd, 2024 and there will be divisions available for every age division between 4 and 15 and every belt level in children’s BJJ. It’s one of the four major IBJJF events that take place throughout the year and as it it is the only one that takes place in the spiritual home of BJJ, it was always going to attract a ton of entrants.
Nobody could have predicted just how popular the tournament was going to be this year though, as the registration has actually reached capacity 33 days before the deadline. There will be over 3,200 young grapplers competing in the tournament and with so many prospects of all ages hitting the mats in one place, it’s a very safe bet that many of them will make up the next generation of elite competitors. As the sport has developed over the years, it’s become more and more important to start at a young age and most of the top competitors today enjoyed a high level of success throughout their childhood.
The sport is growing increasingly popular among children and other promotions have taken notice as well, with ADCC even introducing a kid’s world championship for the first time this year. There will be plenty for fans to watch at the IBJJF Kid’s Brasileiro 2024 if they want to see the next top prospects in the sport too, as there are almost 300 green belts signed up to compete in various divisions. That’s the highest belt level a child can achieve and they will automatically be promoted to either blue or purple belt as soon as they hit 16, with them spending years of training just to get to that point.
The IBJJF announced the news that Brasileiro 2024 had broken the record as their biggest kid’s tournament ever in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
