The IBJJF Asian Championship 2023 finished on July 7th, 2023 and the event delivered some great results for all of the fans in attendance. Some of the best grapplers on the planet traveled to compete and it didn’t only attract competitors from that region. In fact, one of the most impressive team performances in the adult black belt division came from Art of Jiu-Jitsu, who brought several of their top competitors to the event. Their women’s team delivered some fantastic results, as Mayssa Bastos, Margot Ciccarelli, and newly-promoted Shelby Murphey all won gold medals in their respective weight classes.
Tainan Dalpra also represented the AOJ team at the event and got back to his winning ways, although he did so at a heavier weight class than usual. He has spent the majority of his career dominating the middleweight division, but this time he won gold at medium-heavyweight instead. Elsewhere, Thiago Macedo put in a great performance to stand on top of the featherweight podium and Robert Oda pulled off something huge by winning gold in the light-featherweight division despite some really tough opposition. There was fun matches and slick transitions to be seen in every weight class and ultimately, the 2023 generation of IBJJF Asian Championship winners got some hard-earned results.
