The IBJJF has just announced that they will be introducing a brand new tournament format called The Crown in 2023. This event is apparently years in the making and the promotion is aiming to bring together the best and most exciting competitors on the planet for it. They haven’t released a lot of information just yet, but they have revealed that it will be an invitational tournament that will feature several different weightclasses and include both men’s and women’s divisions. It will also apparently have one of the biggest grand prize totals available in the history of the organization.

They date hasn’t been confirmed for The Crown just yet and neither has the lineup of competitors, but no doubt the IBJJF will be releasing this information slowly but surely over the coming weeks and months to build anticipation. The initial announcement has already attracted a lot of attention from some of the top BJJ competitors on the planet though, and a number of them commented on it:

Augusto ‘Tanquinho’ Mendes: Awesome! Congrats IBJJF 🔥 Many generations paved the way for this event! So happy to see the evolution of the sport 🙏🏻

Gabi Garcia: I need back from retirement? 😏

Lucas ‘Hulk Barbosa: Maybe will come back to IBJJF events now 👀

Bianca Basilio: Amazing 👏🏻 I’m so happy for this information ibjjf ♥️⭐️

Andressa Cintra: Incredible 🔥🔥🔥🔥 invite me 😍

With the reception that The Crown has already had in just a short space of time, it’s clear that the IBJJF are going to have their pick of athletes to compete at the event. It’ll be interesting to see how stacked they’re able to make the tournament brackets and what matches the fans end up seeing as the event unfolds.

The IBJJF announced the introduction of The Crown in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
