ADCC 2024 is guaranteed to be one of the biggest events in grappling history, and the promotion has just announced a massive ADCC Open tournament that will take place just two days prior to the event on August 15th, 2024. This is great news for fans who will be traveling to attend the tournament and for the competitors who might narrowly miss out on a place at the world’s most prestigious no gi grappling tournament. Not only will many of those fans be eager to test themselves against talented grapplers in competition, but it’s also another day of action for those in attendance to watch as well.
The promotion has taken a lesson from ADCC 2022, where they hosted a major open tournament just before the main attraction and it delivered a ton of entertainment for those lucky enough to watch it unfold. The tournament is guaranteed to attract several high-level grapplers who maybe weren’t able to emerge victorious in this round of ADCC Trials, or perhaps were not able to compete at the time. This is particularly the case for those that might be coming in support of their teammates and training partners competing in the main tournament, they now get the chance to display their own skills before they sit the stands on the weekend.
This was in full display at the last ADCC Las Vegas Open back in 2022, where several of the winners were grapplers who would not have looked out of place at the main tournament on the weekend. Alex Enriquez and Tammi Musumeci in particular stood out from the women’s divisions, while Jacob Couch was one of the most notable male competitors and Andrew Tackett took home double gold. At least one of these elite grapplers will now be invited to ADCC 2024 as well, so it’s likely that the ADCC Las Vegas Open also serves as an opportunity to see the next generation of contenders that might emerge ready for 2026.
