High Rollerz is one of the most relaxed and unusual professional grappling promotions in existence and they’re really determined on keeping that vibe going with their latest event, Cops vs Stonerz! The promotion announced the news of their latest event that’s due to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 18th on their official Instagram account. This event will also see a twist on the promotion’s usual practice of having all athletes compete while under the influence of Marijuana.
Instead, the police officers who are participating in the event will all be completely sober, although their opponents will be sticking to High Rollerz tradition. They’ve already explained that the aim of the event is to raise awareness for Jiu-Jitsu as a completely non-lethal alternative to more traditional police tactics of controlling suspects, while simultaneously celebrating the coming end of Marijuana prohibition. Their first aim is a stance that is shared by a number of high-level Jiu-Jitsu athletes, including Rener Gracie who recently put forward a plan for national police reform that contained the drive for officers to be trained in the art.
This is a far-cry from the promotion’s most recent event, High Rollerz 4, which saw every single athlete competing under the influence and no real goal behind the event other than to watch Jake Shields take on Diego Sanchez. One thing is for sure, the Cops vs Stonerz event will certainly attract a lot of attention for the promotion, and for both of the causes that they’re using the event to champion.
