Helena Crevar has just been booked to compete in one of the biggest matches of her career so far as she takes on Emily Fernandez at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 4 on June 29th, 2023. This is actually the only women’s BJJ match that has been confirmed for the event, but it’s certainly going to be an exciting one. Both women will be making their first appearance for the promotion and they’ll no doubt be eager to put on a show in the hopes of getting the win and being invited back to compete again.
Emily Fernandez is a BJJ black belt under Bruno Bastos who has managed to get a fair few wins on the IBJJF Open circuit so far, getting in some valuable competition experience against the best female grapplers on the planet since being promoted. While Crevar is still a juvenile blue belt competitor, she’s shown time and time again that she’s ready for the highest levels of competition as she routinely dominates the opposition in her age bracket and beyond. She’s been training at New Wave Jiu-Jitsu since the beginning of the year and has been pushing hard to get opportunities against top competitors, something that seems to be paying off now.
It’ll be a busy night for John Danaher and the team at New Wave Jiu-Jitsu in fact, as several of their athletes will be stepping on the mats throughout the night. Her teammate Dan Manasoiu will be competing in the absolute tournament in an attempt to take home the $30,000 grand prize against some tough opposition, while another senior member of the team is competing on a superfight. Nicholas Meregali will be facing Roberto ‘Cyborg’ Abreu in a tough challenge at the event, although he’ll no doubt be up to the task.
