Nicholas Meregali and Roberto ‘Cyborg’ Abreu have just been booked to compete against one another on UFC Fight Pass Invitational 4 on June 29th, 2023. The full card is stacked with some of the best grapplers on the planet and the promotion has really pulled out all of the stops in order to make sure that they deliver an exciting event. While Meregali and Cyborg are easily capable of headlining any professional grappling event, it’s a real testament to the quality of the event that this is just a part of the main card for UFC Fight Pass Invitational 4.
Dana White made the announcement during the broadcast for UFC Vegas 74, where he also confirmed another matchup for the event. Along with elite BJJ black belts Nicholas Meregali and Roberto ‘Cyborg’ Abreu, there will also be an elite wrestling competing in the event. Three-time NCAA champion Roman Bravo-Young will be making his submission grappling debut against former UFC flyweight world title contender Alex Perez. Although these two matches were announced at the same time, the main and co-main event for UFC Fight Pass Invitational 4 were already confirmed.
The main event will see Craig Jones and Felipe Pena battling it out in a very interesting matchup, with both men having an extensive history with Gordon Ryan. A win in this match for either man would see a lot of attention drawn towards a match with Ryan in the future, although with the recent medical issues he’s been suffering this could be a long way away yet. The co-main event just before that is another tough matchup between two of the most popular UFC light-heavyweight veterans, Glover Teixeira and Anthony Smith.
UFC president Dana White announced the news that Nicholas Meregali and Roberto ‘Cyborg’ Abreu were due to meet at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 4 in a post to his official Instagram account:
