Helena Crevar has just been booked to make her second title-defense at Polaris 31 on February 8th, 2024, as she will be facing Anabel Lopez. It’s going to be a big moment for both women, as they will be the superfight headlining the very first event of the Polaris Squads Intercontinental Championship 2025. A lot of attention will be placed on the first round of this tournament, as two teams stacked full of elite competitors will be battling it out to get off to a good start. Stepping on the mats in the superfight on such a momentous occasion like that is a huge opportunity for any competitor.
For Crevar, she is no stranger to the biggest stages at this point in her career and she’s already competed for Polaris twice before. She won a convincing decision against Jessika Torttila in her promotional debut at Polaris 28, and that was the win that earned her the inaugural lightweight title. Although it’s rare to see grapplers fighting for titles in their very first appearance at a promotion, Crevar has been an undeniable force over the last few years. She proved that Polaris’ faith in her was well-placed too, as she won a silver medal in the under 65kg division at ADCC 2024 just a few months later.
That was just the first match of her UK exclusive contract with Polaris, so it was always clear that she would be returning to defend the lightweight title. Not many people would have predicted just how soon she would do so though, as she finished off the year with another decision win over Nia Blackman at Polaris 30. Anabel Lopez is another young prospect who has been one to watch for a while and like Crevar, she also had a breakthrough moment this year. She won the heavyweight division at the IBJJF No Gi World Championship 2024, making her the ideal challenger for Crevar’s lightweight title.
Polaris announced the news that Helena Crevar was going to defend her title against Anabel Lopez at Polaris 31 in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
