Grapplefest 13 saw one of the top European promotions return to Liverpool, England in order to deliver a night full of exciting matches. The event also saw the return of several members of the Daisy Fresh team, who first took the trip to the United Kingdom to compete back at Grapplefest 11 too. At that event, John Hansen submitted Jamie Hughes to become the promotion’s very first openweight champion and he was ready to defend this title for the first time against Arya Esfandmaz.
In the end, ADCC 2019 veteran Hansen defeat Esfandmaz by decision and retained his openweight title shortly after another man who won an ADCC trials event took to the mats. UK fan-favorite Ashley Williams took on Sean Stewart and also won a unanimous decision against a tough opponent. After both those matches finished, Jacob ‘The Hillbilly Hammer’ Couch took on Silviu Nastasa in the main event of Grapplefest 13 and he also managed to win a decision, although Nastasa put up a solid fight and dealt with Couch’s guardwork incredibly well.
