John Danaher recently announced that his famous Danaher Death Squad was going their separate ways, and now it seems as though Gordon Ryan is actually opening up his own gym in Austin, Texas. Fans were originally wondering what would happen to all of the individual grapplers training under Danaher, and he seemed to want to leave it to them to announce their own individual plans now that the team was going their separate ways. Ryan actually mentions that there’s still a little uncertainty as to who will be going where and he’s unsure which competitors will be joining him in the Lone Star State.

Gordon Ryan also explained part of his reasoning in moving to Texas to open up his own gym further down in the comment chain of the post to his official Instagram account where he made the announcement. According to him, he still has a lot of love for Puerto Rico and has enjoyed his time there, but isn’t able to get enough people training in the area and would rather move to a larger city in the States to achieve this.

Given that Ryan has taken some time away from competition to solve his stomach issues, it’s unclear whether the move to Austin will go hand in hand with him putting an end to his hiatus and stepping back on the mats. Even if he chooses not to, he’ll likely attract a lot of young competitors with a lot of potential to Austin and it shouldn’t be long before he has some students competing at the highest levels of the sport.
