Gilbert Burns has just been booked to compete against fellow welterweight Sean Brady in the main event of the upcoming UFC Fight Night 243 card on September 7th, 2024. It will be a very important fight for Burns in particular, as he’ll be looking to bounce back from the first time in his career that he’s gone on a losing streak. There’s a lot on the line for Brady too, as a win over a big name like Burns will help propel him in to the top 5 of the division and allow him to start building towards an eventual title-shot.
Burns has been a professional fighter since 2012 and has been competing in the UFC for almost a decade now, and he’s never suffered back-to-back losses before. It started with a decision loss to Belal Muhammad at UFC 288 where he suffered an arm injury, and he had to take a little time away from competition to heal. He was on the receiving end of a knockout loss to Jack Della Maddalena in his return fight at UFC 299, and he’s already hungry to bounce back from that in a pretty short space of time.
Although Gilbert Burns is in a tough position in his career he’s not taking any easy fights, as Sean Brady is a fantastic fighter. Not only will Brady be able to bring the fight to him on the feet and potentially even beat him there, but he’s also a great grappler too. Brady has actually competed in a number of pure grappling matches and even holds an impressive decision win over Craig Jones as well. Although Burns should have a clear advantage on the ground as an elite grappler, Brady has proven that he can keep up with the best of them and it’ll be interesting to see how he fares.
