Ex-UFC Welterweight and Middleweight World Champion and recent inductee to the UFC Hall of Fame, Georges St-Pierre, has just started a Cameo account to raise money for his own charity, the GSP Foundation. For those that don’t know, Cameo is a site that allows you to send a request to a famous person for a specific video that they’ll then make for you at a predetermined cost. This could be anything like birthday wishes for a friend, or any kind of message that you want for yourself.
The site has exploded in popularity over the last few months due to the Covid-19 lockdown and dozens of celebrities being unable to work or earn income. But Georges St-Pierre is not in it for himself as his Cameo account donates all proceeds to a charity that he’s set up, named after himself. The GSP Foundation supports programs that aim to prevent bullying and promote youth participation in sports. The mission of the foundation might not be much of a surprise given that St-Pierre has been vocal in the past about his being a victim of bullying during his childhood and he regularly extols the virtues of physical exercise.
Realistically, this might be as close as any fan will get to seeing one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time back in action after St-Pierre stepped away from the sport for the second time. His first hiatus lasted almost four years before he came back at UFC 217 to win the Middleweight title against Michael Bisping and it’s been almost three years since then. He’s repeatedly stated that only one fight interests him at this point in his life, the reigning and undefeated Lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov. Sadly, Dana White’s reluctance combined with St-Pierre coming up close to 40 now likely means that we’ll never see this fight made.
