Gordon Ryan is often referred to as one of the greatest grapplers in the history of the sport and it seems as though Georges St-Pierre would be among those who agree. The pair of elite athletes have been training together lately with the rest of the crew at New Wave Jiu-Jitsu in Austin, Texas as several of them are beginning to make preparations for the 2022 ADCC world championships. Ryan will return to compete in the over 99kg division as well as the superfight against the reigning champion Andre Galvao and he needs all the preparation he can get as a result. Of course, training rounds against one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time will be a huge help in the process.
Ryan isn’t alone though as ADCC North American East Coast trials winner Giancarlo Bodoni also trains under John Danaher and he will be eager to make a big impact in the 88kg division. Not just that, but another man who doesn’t usually train under Danaher and the team is also getting read for ADCC 2022 in Austin. Nicholas Meregali will be competing in his first major no gi tournament at the prestigious event and he’s been working hard alongside Ryan to get ready for one of the biggest opportunities of his career.
This isn’t the first time that Gordon Ryan and Georges St-Pierre have trained together of course, because St-Pierre spent a large portion of his career under the guidance of Danaher. It shouldn’t be too surprising to hear the words that St-Pierre has for him:
“It’s like grappling with a gorilla. His level is so high. he’s the best guy, I’ve ever rolled with.”
Although it’s still an amazing compliment considering that St-Pierre has trained alongside several of the other contenders for greatest grappler of all time like Roger Gracie and Braulio Estima.
