Fury FC is one of the biggest regional MMA promotions in North America and the man in charge, Eric Garcia, has just announced a cash bonus for any fighter landing a Boston crab in his cage. Although top MMA fighters always gravitate towards the UFC or other major promotions like PFL and ONE Championship, they have to spend the early days of their professional career building a resume on the regional circuit. That’s where Fury FC comes into play, as they’ve managed to attract a ton of top prospects starting out their MMA careers over the last few years.
Just recently the promotion has played host to top BJJ competitor Damien Anderson’s professional MMA debut, and he isn’t the only elite grappler to start his career out in their cage. One of the most impressive stories over the last few years has been Kody Steele’s rise through the ranks, as he has won all 5 of his fights for the promotion. With incredibly talented BJJ black belts like that competing for Fury FC, it isn’t all that impossible to imagine seeing a Boston crab at one of their events in 2024.
Eric Garcia recently appeared in an interview with TJ DeSantis and revealed that he is so eager to see a Boston crab that he’s even willing to pay extra for it:
“Yeah, so I was thinking ‘I would love to see a Boston crab happen in the Fury FC cage on the main card’. So if we bring some guys in, anybody that’s fighting on the main card, if they can pull off a Boston crab, I’ll throw them a thousand bucks cash.”
To his credit, TJ DeSantis seemed to agree that this would be a fun moment for the promotion and he was happy to sweeten the pot himself:
“If someone’s able to pull that off in the Fury cage, I would add to that bounty sir. Because I think it would be incredibly hard to pull off. I don’t know. I’ve seen half-crabs before and even the half-crab, I don’t even know how you set it up. It’s not gonna be like a traditional pro wrestling move, it’s gonna have to be in the weirdest scramble and you’re gonna have to catch your opponent so off-guard that they’re just gonna be like ‘What the hell are you doing?!'”
UFC Fight Pass announced the news that Eric Garcia had put out a $1,000 cash bonus for fighters landing the Boston Crab on a Fury FC main card in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
