IBJJF World Championship 2024 Absolute Brackets
Men’s Absolute Division
Gutemberg Pereira is the top seed in the men’s absolute division brackets at the IBJJF World Championship 2024, but the second seed is Erich Munis and he’s the man that most people would probably pick out as the winner. Either of these men could end up winning the title though, and there’s a few other competitors who stand out as potential champions too. Marcus Ribeiro has been seeded fourth and he’s another big name who will be tough to beat in this bracket and although he might be a lot smaller than most of his opponents; it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Jansen Gomes go on a run here.
Exciting Early Matches
Gomes and Anderson Kauan both have opening round matches to get through first but if they can both win, that sets up a fantastic second-round match that fans would no doubt love to see. There’s a fun match between Roberto Jimenez and Dory Aoun to look forward to in the first round too, and Guilherme Augusto is waiting for the winner in the next round. There’s quite a lot of exciting matches coming up on that side of the bracket in fact, as whoever wins that second-round match will face the winner of Rayron Gracie and Jackson Sousa less than an hour later.
There’s a few more interesting matches opening up the absolute division too, including an exciting booking between Elijah Dorsey and Mathias Luna. That same side of the bracket also features Servio Tulio vs Javier Barter, but it’ll be quite a few matches before any of these four men can face one another. There’s a textbook battle between youth and experience when Nicholas Maglicic faces off against Ricardo Evangelista, and UK fans get to see Bradley Hill taking on a massive challenge in the opening round when he faces off against Felipe Costa.
Women’s Absolute Division
The top contender in this division is definitely Gabrieli Pessanha, as she has emerged victorious in stacked absolute division brackets at the IBJJF World Championship multiple times before 2024. Pessanha has won this title three years in a row now and it’s hard to imagine anyone else standing on top of the podium here. Her stiffest competition will come from Yara Soares, who has been seeded second in the division and is on the opposite side of the bracket as a result. One dark horse in the division is Amy Campo though, as she’s the reigning medium-heavyweight champion and has had some great matches with both Pessanha and Soares in the past.
Exciting Early Matches
Campo has a great opening round match against Maria Ruffatto so even if she doesn’t make it to the podium, she’ll still almost certainly be a part of some exciting moments. The other side of the bracket has a few great matches worth watching right from the start too, particularly the one between Maria Malyjasiak and Salla Simola. Both of these women had a good chance of reaching the podium but they’ll have to meet right at the start, so it should be a really high-level battle. Elizabeth Mitrovic is on the same side of the bracket against Maryanna Cardoso and if she wins that first match, she’ll meet the winner of Malyjasiak and Simola in the quarter-final on the first day.
