Submission Grappling Series is a great promotion that have been running events since 2021, building up to the fantastic events that they hold today. Their 12th took place on June 3rd, 2023 and the promotion put together a great lineup of 30 matches between adult and child competitors of all levels. The main event saw Jasmine Rocha taking on Cathryn Millares in a great matchup, but the match of the night actually came much earlier than that. Roughly halfway through the main card, two exciting blue belt competitors faced off with one another and generated non-stop action in the cage.
DJ Maloney is a blue belt under Corey Brown at Black Tie BJJ while Andrew Bruder is a blue belt from Alers Martial Arts, training under Jim Alers. Both of the men put on a really high pace right from the start of the match and continued up until the very end, with submission attempts coming from both sides. Neither man was able to get the tap within the regulation time period so the match went into EBI overtime, and Maloney managed to win with the fastest escape time. All in all it was a fantastic match from a great event, and it’ll be interesting to see what else comes from Submission Grappling Series in the future.
