Competitive BJJ has historically focused much more heavily on men than women and the earliest editions of both the ADCC and IBJJF World Championship only had men’s divisions. Over the decades since those first world championship events, the amount of opportunities available to women in BJJ has grown steadily. While there is still plenty of room for growth in the future, there are several female-only grappling promotions springing up all around the world. Enyo Grappling is leading the charge in the UK as the first female-only promotion in the country, and their debut event showed just how exciting the concept can be.
Their first event took place on August 20th, 2022 and this match between Danielle Tighe and Dominika Krzeslak was awarded ‘Fight of the Night’ by the promotion’s commentator Dan Strauss thanks to the fantastic performances by both women. Tighe is a BJJ brown belt with experience competing on some of the biggest promotions in Europe like Polaris while Krzeslak is a BJJ purple belt and Judo black belt with tons of competitive experience. It was a tough back and forth match in the end with both women having their fair share of chances throughout the 10 minute round. Although Krzeslak won the decision, both women showed the depth of their games by attacking from a variety of different positions.
