Freddie Vosgrone has gone from being a top BJJ competitor to one of the hottest MMA prospects in the world in recent years and his time with Oktagon MMA has been a big part of that, but a recent spat has resulted in him threatening to leave them behind. As the biggest organization in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Oktagon MMA have earned a place as one of the top regional MMA promotions in Europe. Although they have featured a number of top fighters over the last decade, Vosgrone is very clearly unhappy with the way he’s been treated by them.
Vosgrone was signed Oktagon MMA when he was 3-0 in professional MMA and with all 3 of those wins coming by way of submission, he was clearly ready for a bigger challenge. He was starting to develop some solid striking during this time but he was still relying primarily on his grappling. It’s not hard to see why either, as Vosgrone reached the podium at ADCC European Trials in 2024. He’s repeatedly proven that he’s one of the best heavyweight grapplers in Europe and with his MMA career on the rise, Oktagon MMA made a great move in signing him when they did.
Vosgrone has fought for them twice this year and won both fights by submission, maintaining his perfect record and quickly becoming one of their most popular fighters. It was actually during the post-fight press conference for the second fight that Vosgrone said “I don’t know if I want to fight at Oktagon again. Why would I want to fight at a promotion that treats me like s**t every time I fight here or I’m attending an event?” The footage of that statement and Oktagon owner Ondrej Novotny’s response was later uploaded to Twitter:
Vosgrone can then be seen leaving the press conference before Novotny could finish his response, but the promotion did later put out a full statement via their official Twitter account:
Freddie Vosgrone has since replied too, taking it a step further and even going so far as to say that he should simply leave Oktagon MMA :
“Oktagon MMA, if you feel disrespected by me then we should just part ways. I have many organizations that are much bigger wanting me to fight. So (Ondrej Novotny) if you feel like you can’t treat me right then just cancel my contract. But obviously you won’t do it and use it as leverage to pressure me.”
