Ffion Davies has just announced that she will be sponsoring a female-only Jiu-Jitsu tournament and has now doubled their prize money from £5,000 to £10,000. The event is being organized by the clothing brand Warehouse JJ and they put it together specifically for female blue and purple belt competitors, attracting some of the very best ready for October 18th, 2025. The brand wanted to create something truly unique for women in the sport and have managed to bring together several sponsors in order to build up an impressive prize pool. The tournament was being contested at under 71kg but with so much money on the line, there were plenty of women willing to move up in weight too.
The brand’s original plan was to award £4,000 to the winner, £1,000 to second place, and £250 to third; but that has changed dramatically with Davies’s involvement. Now the eventual winner will receive £8,000, while second place will receive £1,500 and the bronze medalist will receive £500. It’s a massive leap that has turned an already-impressive prize pool in to something that these competitors will never have seen before and likely won’t again any time soon. Davies has long been an advocate for women in the sport but this has shown that she really does want to see the next generation of competitors succeed.
Shockingly; when Davies registered her biggest no gi achievement by winning gold at ADCC 2022, she actually would have been paid just half of what the winner of this earn. Things have progressed quite quickly since then and ADCC finally made the decision to award equal prize money to men and women, starting for the first time with the champions at ADCC 2024. Regardless, it’s still incredibly impressive that Warehouse JJ (with Davies’ help) have managed to put together an event that gives female competitors who are rising up the ranks the same earning opportunity as the very best in the world.
