Main Character Jiu-Jitsu 6 will take place on March 30th, 2025 and the promotion has just announced a superb main event match for fans to look forward to. Veteran no gi competitor Andy Varela will be making his return to the MCJJ mats as he takes on a new challenge from someone who has made a big impact at the highest level lately, Wallisson Oliveira. It’s an interesting matchup for a number of reasons, not least of all because both men have exciting styles and a clash between them is one that’s almost guaranteed to finish off the night on an action-packed high note.
Varela is one of the top 10th Planet competitors and a multiple-time ADCC veteran, but last year actually saw him register one of the biggest achievements of his career. He put together an incredible week of performances in order to become the PGF welterweight world champion by winning Season 6 despite some of the best opposition possible. He was back in action almost immediately after that and he made his MCJJ debut opposite Jozef Chen in the main event of MCJJ 4. Although Varela didn’t win the match in the end he has more than earned another opportunity to show off his skills on the MCJJ mats, and that’s what will happen here.
Wallisson Oliveira on the other hand was relatively quiet when Varela was winning PGF and making other major appearances throughout 2024. He was competing primarily on the IBJJF circuit and registering several solid performances in both gi and no gi events, but it wasn’t until the end of the year that he reached the very peak of the mountain. Oliveira had some serious contenders in his bracket but he stormed to victory at the IBJJF No Gi World Championship 2024, taking home a gold medal in the medium-heavyweight division. This will undoubtedly be a tough match for both men, and a great chance for them to reconfirm their position at the top of the sport.
