The Emerald City Invitational is back with ECI 3 and this time the promotion’s $10,000 grand prix was contested in the 185lbs division. After the success of their last event and the amount of attention it garnered, it’s no surprise that they’ve managed to go even bigger for the third installment. The winner of the 77kg division of the European, Middle-Eastern, and African ADCC Trials, Oliver Taza, emerged victorious here again after four tough matches against top competitors. Taza submitted his first three opponents with different heelhook variations, running through Nick Domgjoni, Jay Rodriguez, and Alan Sanchez all in relatively short order to book his place in the final.
There he came up against Matt Serra black belt Nick Ronan and although he wasn’t able to get the finish in the regulation period for the first time of the night, he did secure an inverted triangle in EBI overtime to bag himself the $10,000 prize. The Emerald City Invitational 3 also featured two superfights with two of the sport’s top giant-killers right now, Estevan Martinez and Amanda Leve. Martinez took on Eric Naples and managed to secure a rear-naked choke shockingly quickly while Leve outlasted Lauren Jones to win due to having the most ride time, with both matches being finished in EBI overtime.
