The young EBI 12 Champion Erin Blanchfield has just signed to make her UFC debut in just 8 day’s time as a late replacement for Bea Malecki at UFC on ABC: Till v Vettori on April 10th. She will be coming up against Norma Dumont who is 9 years her elder but actually has one fight less professional experience as Blanchfield started competing at an incredibly young age. Blanchfield fights at Flyweight normally but will be moving up to Bantamweight to compete against Dumont as that is where her fight against Malecki was originally scheduled.
Although she will be giving up a little bit of size against Dumont, Blanchfield is a phenomenal grappler with an impressive striking game that develops all the time. At only 21 years-old, she is already a stiff challenge for Dumont and will almost always hold the advantage on the ground regardless of who she competes against, or at what weight. Erin Blanchfield has already amassed a 6-1 professional record prior to her UFC debut that includes five fights in the Invicta cage against some of the best female fighters available.
Blanchfield had done so well in her Invicta career that she was scheduled to fight for the promotion’s vacant Flyweight title back in November against CJJ veteran Pearl Gonzalez. While she was unfortunate that this fight eventually fell through, her patience has been rewarded with the UFC callup that will not only lead to bigger paydays, but much bigger opportunities as her career progresses.
