Footage has now emerged of an incident over the weekend where BJJ black belt and Bellator MMA veteran Dillon Danis was arrested outside of a New Jersey nightclub. At the time of writing, the exact circumstances surrounding his arrest are unknown but the fighter has released a cryptic statement that appears to show that he feels no remorse over his actions:
you need people like me

This isn’t anywhere near the first time that Danis has been the source of headlines for all the wrong reasons, and he’s been quick to call out other combat sports athletes in the past for either MMA fights or grappling matches. His interactions with high-profile competitors haven’t been limited to those two worlds that he has experience in either, as he recently started angling for a boxing match with Jake Paul as well.
Most recently, his spat with UFC veteran Sean Strickland hit the news but with much of the focus being on the response that Strickland gave to Danis, one that seemed to shut down the argument immediately. Danis was scheduled to compete in his third professional MMA fight back at Bellator 238 in January 2020 but he had to withdraw from the fight due to having committed himself to a knee surgery that required time to recover. It appears as though he’s fully recovered at the moment but there is still no news on whether he will be improving on his 2-0 MMA record, leading many detractors to side with Ben Askren’s assessment of Danis.
