ONE Championship are clearly determined to bring the best grapplers on the planet under contract and they’ve just announced that Diego ‘Pato’ Oliveira will be making his debut for the promotion. Oliveira will be competing at the upcoming ONE Fight Night 13 event on August 4th, 2023 and he will be facing off against Rodrigo Marello at 145lbs. It is shaping up to be a very exciting match as well, as Marello has already made a name for himself in ONE Championship. He actually registered the fastest submission in ONE Championship history when he submitted Ruslan Bagdasarian in just 15 seconds at ONE 161.
While Marello has become a popular competitor in ONE Championship, Diego ‘Pato’ Oliveira has already established himself as one of the best grapplers on the planet. Oliveira made the decision to join Art of Jiu-Jitsu earlier in the year and that change of scenery has already paid off in a huge way, as he’s been putting in fantastic performances ever since. Oliveira already won an IBJJF world championship back in 2021 and left ADCC 2022 with a bronze medal, but his medal collection has grown even further since switching teams to AOJ and training under the legendary Mendes brothers. Oliveira has dominated the IBJJF Open circuit and went on to win the light-featherweight division at the IBJJF world championship 2023, and that achievement was made even more impressive thanks to the incredibly tough opposition he faced along the way.
There’s plenty more action arranged for the ONE Fight Night 13 too, with several other fights booked across multiple combat sports disciplines. As usual for ONE Championship, they’ve booked elite Muay Thai and Kickboxing matches for the event alongside several professional MMA fights. One of the most notable matches for grappling fans is actually set to serve as the co-main event, as Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida will finally meet terrifying Senegalese wrestler Oumar ‘Reug Reug’ Kane in a tough heavyweight fight.
