The date and location for the IBJJF World Championship 2024 has now been announced, and the biggest gi grappling event of the year is only a handful of months away. The event will be taking place from May 31st to June 2nd, 2024 with an additional day available on May 30th if the number of registrations reach the necessary amount. The most important event in the IBJJF calendar will be coming back to the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California after the last edition took place in California State University, marking a return to the tradition of the last few years.

Not only is the IBJJF World Championship the biggest gi grappling tournament of the year, but it also marks the end of the road for all athletes looking to win an IBJJF Grand Slam too. The IBJJF European Championship has already taken place and the number of competitors who are able to win the coveted Grand Slam has been narrowed down to just 17. The IBJJF Pan Championship in March is up next and there will be very little rest available for grapplers before the third major event of the IBJJF calendar, as the IBJJF Brazilian National Championship is taking place in April.

Those 17 grapplers who have already won an IBJJF major this year will undoubtedly be narrowed down even further as the next two tournaments take place. There’s usually only two or three grapplers who are eligible for a Grand Slam title by the time the IBJJF World Championship comes around, and this year will probably end up much the same. Even without a Grand Slam on the line, gi grapplers will still be fighting tooth and nail to win the most important tournament of the year and there will undoubtedly be tons of action in every single division.

The IBJJF announced the date and location for the IBJJF World Championship 2024 in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
