Dana White recently opened up about the possibility of Dillon Danis becoming a UFC fighter, and he didn’t seem particularly excited about the prospect. White made an appearance on the Full Send Podcast and it made sense that this topic might come up, as Danis has become a big figure in the combat sports world after engaging in a boxing match with Logan Paul that ended in his disqualification. He has been a competitor long before this with experience in both professional grappling and MMA, but he was always known more for his social media presence and his antics outside the cage than anything else.
Dilllon Danis is now a free agent after being released by Bellator and he holds a 2-0 professional MMA record, so it wouldn’t be the craziest signing that the UFC has made under Dana White. When White was directly asked about it, he raised one of the biggest issues with having Danis under the UFC banner:
“Do you think he should be? I heard he just retired. The other thing with him is, and I have no beef with the kid at all, I’ve probably said two words to him in my whole life… But every time he’s around, sh*t’s going down. We can’t have that stuff going on.”
White isn’t wrong either, Danis did recently announce his decision to retire. He wouldn’t be the first combat sports athlete to return after retiring though and he’s still very young, so it doesn’t seem all that likely that the decision is permanent. White went into a little more detail about exactly why Danis’ actions outside the cage would not make him a good signing for the UFC regardless of whether he returns or not:
“A lot of people see like when guys get into it on stage or something starts to happen, ‘Oh, they must love this,’ or whatever. No. No, we don’t love it. We don’t need that sh*t to sell fights, and basically what happens is when that goes down, the athletic commission goes crazy and people start getting fined and they come after us. It’s our job to keep that sh*t under control. That’s why when we see these other events where these guys and everything breaks out like that, it’s a f*cking total unprofessional clown show.”
