Fury FC 98 took place on November 3rd, 2024 and the promotion put together an card that featured two elite BJJ black belts, Damien Anderson and Mansher Khera. Both men were coming in undefeated and were facing a new challenge in their respective fights, although for different reasons. Anderson was coming into the fight with Gabriel Wanderley at 3-0 and was dropping down to a new weight class, competing at bantamweight for the first time in his career. Khera on the other hand was 8-0 before the cage door closed on his main event fight, where he was challenging Devon Dixon for vacant the Fury FC lightweight championship.
Anderson actually chose to work his striking throughout the entire of the first round of his fight with Wanderley and things were going very well for him. He was able to show off the rapid improvements he’s been making in his standing game and likely won the first round on the judge’s scorecards. He started out the second round in a similar fashion and it took less than a minute for him to wobble Wanderley with a stiff left hand. Anderson dropped him with further punches, and worked to finish the fight with ground and pound. Wanderley started to attack the legs and was able to survive for a moment, but Anderson hit a brilliant counter heel hook from 50/50 to finish the fight.
There was a few more fights before the main event of Fury FC 98, and Mansher Khera took a much different approach to Damien Anderson. He took advantage of an early takedown opportunity and passed Dixon’s guard, using solid positional control to maintain top position while landing a few strikes. Dixon eventually got back to guard but another pass from Khera led him to a quick armbar transition, and he cranked on an extended arm hard. Dixon escaped and got to standing, but Khera was able to follow him with a bodylock and wear him down against the cage until just before the round ended.
Khera took his time a little more in the second round and worked his striking with Dixon on the feet. He shot in again and almost got in on Dixon’s leg, but Dixon was able to create distance and escape. A few more attempts were stuffed but a little after the halfway mark of the round, Khera was able to shoot in quickly and secure side control immediately. Khera stepped into mount but Dixon was able to re-guard, only for Khera to use a deep underhook to pass his half-guard. Khera controlled Dixon from there and finished the round with a few more strikes on the ground.
The third round started off slower again, but Khera burst into action a little after the first minute was over. He landed a right hand that set up his bodylock entry and he drove Dixon into the cage with it. Dixon tried to hit a counter-throw but Khera was able to find his way to top position, quickly passing Dixon’s guard when he tried to set up a triangle choke. A few more shots forced Dixon to turtle and Khera immediately took his back, landing even more ground and pound until the referee stepped into call an end to the fight.
