Craig Jones has just announced that he will be taking part in another superfight at CJI 2 and this time it will be ‘the biggest grappling match in history’. After the incredible success of the inaugural Craig Jones Invitational it was always going to be tough to raise the stakes for the second event. That’s exactly what Jones is looking to do though, and he’s already managed to build a ton of anticipation even before the first competitor has been confirmed. He started that just a few weeks ago by revealing that he was changing things up, and CJI 2 was going to be a team grappling event under Quintet rules.
Although he name-dropped a few potential major teams that he’d be happy to have competing at the event, it was still early days and nothing was official. The only guarantee was B-Team Jiu-Jitsu, as Jones would obviously allocate one of the eight spots available to the team that he helped build. That meant that there was a lot of speculation about whether or not Jones would be one of the five men competing for B-Team. It seemed unlikely though, given that he stayed out of the brackets at CJI 1 in order to face Gabi Garcia in the sport’s first intergender superfight instead.
Jones has now confirmed that he’ll be doing the same thing again and with his tease that this will be the biggest grappling match in history, fans are left to wonder about who he’s facing. The key question is just how serious Jones is when he made that statement, because he’s known for his sarcastic sense of humor. There’s a possibility he is serious and he’s up against someone like Roger Gracie or Gordon Ryan, or any other legendary competitor from around his weight class. It’s equally possible that he’s talking about taking on someone like Dillon Danis or Logan Paul as well though, so only time will tell.
While fans are left to wonder about who Craig Jones will be facing for his superfight at CJI 2, they’ll also be trying to figure out the teams competing alongside B-Team Jiu-Jitsu as well. Eddie Bravo has already shared his chosen lineup for the 10th Planet team but with 6 spots remaining, there’s plenty of room for surprises. Some welcome news came from another promotion as well, with Tom DeBlass confirming that ONE Championship will allow it’s athletes to compete in CJI 2. That opens up so many more possibilities when it comes to some of the biggest teams in the world putting together their roster for the event.
