Craig Jones has had a fairly long working relationship with the popular eyewear brand Oscar & Frank, but now that appears to have completely broken down. The company’s glasses have been front and centre in much of Jones’ promotional efforts, from social media posts to podcast interviews. Given that he’s one of the biggest figures in the Jiu-Jitsu world and developing the Craig Jones Invitational has only made him more popular; it’s safe to say that this must have been good for the brand. It presumably worked well for both Jones and CJI at the same time too, as business relationships like this are never going to be one-way.
Although most business relationships will come to an end at some point, it seems as though this one has been particularly bitter. Jones announced that they were no longer going to be working together and although he didn’t share the exact details, he was clear that it didn’t end on good terms:
”Guys, I’m no longer working with Oscar & Frank sunglasses. Despite me telling them not to use my name, likeness, and image; they continue to use them for Meta ads. So if you see any of that on Instagram, please feel free to report them. They do not have my permission, and this is getting ugly.”
Interestingly, this isn’t the first high-profile fallout between an elite Jiu-Jitsu competitor and a brand this year. Gordon Ryan had a very public spat with his former sponsor Toehold, and the two have since parted ways. The main difference there is that Ryan immediately unloaded all the details of his issues with them, while Jones has been pretty vague so far. It may not stay this way for long though, depending on how Oscar & Frank choose to respond and whether Jones decides to really open up. He’s not normally one for keeping his opinions or experiences to himself though, so it’s hard to imagine that this is the end of this story.
Craig Jones revealed the breakdown of his working relationship with Oscar & Frank in a recent post to his official Instagram account:
