The Combat Jiu Jitsu World Championships are always an exciting event and this year’s Welterweight edition has been no different. Almost every fight on the night ended in a submission within the regulation time-period and the opening round alone provided a number of exciting moments. Most notably, both Roberto Jimenez and Nathan Orchard only needed a little over a minute to finish their opponents, Adrian Madrid and Patricio Carballo with an arm-triangle choke and a toehold respectively.

In the quarter-finals, Derek Rayfield showed capped off an impressive night by finishing his second Dead Orchard in as many matches. Meanwhile, Jimenez continued his dominance by submitting Jim Alers with a triangle-armbar and Orchard did the same against Danny Stolfi by securing a beautiful heelhook finish. Rayfield then came up against Orchard in the semi-finals and got the chance to take on one of his favorite submission’s namesakes. Orchard continued his trend of leg attacks instead however and managed to submit Rayfield with a kneebar in the first half of the regulation time-period.

On the opposite side of the bracket, Jimenez wasted no time against MMA legend Gesias ‘JZ’ Cavalcante by taking his back early on in their match and working his way to a rear-naked choke. When he met Orchard in the finals the stage was set for an epic match between two submission artists but unfortunately for the 10th Planet representative, it proved to be one of the shortest matches of the night. It took Jimenez a little over a minute to catch Orchard in a triangle choke and earn the title of Combat Jiu Jitsu Welterweight World Champion 2021.
