The ADCC Niagara Open 2024 took place on November 16th, 2024 and the results featured a number of top Canadian no gi grapplers. There have been several Canadian ADCC Opens over the last two years and it’s clear that the tournament’s presence is a welcome addition to the local scene. There’s regularly been a healthy turnout in the past and this event was no exception to that, but the local talent in the area still shone regardless. There was a total of 10 gold medalists in the advanced divisions and half of them were Canadian, although both the absolute champions were representing other countries.
Musa Ljumanovic won the men’s absolute division and went 6-1 over the whole day, as he had to settle for a silver medal behind Brian Guevara in the under 100kg division. Anchelle Berrios-Irizarry really impressed in the women’s absolute division, as the purple belt stepped up from her intermediate weight class and submitted all three opponents to take gold. American prospect Sid Tavolaro also stood out after the same result in the under 70kg division, as he also submitted all three of his opponents. Malik Belhaj won the biggest weight class of the day at under 83kg though, submitting two out of three opponents after receiving a bye through the opening round.
