BJJ legend Caio Terra has just had to undergo surgery in order to fix a hip injury that he suffered back in 2021, and will now be going through the recovery process moving forward. Terra has experienced his fair share of injuries as a BJJ athlete, much like anyone else who chooses to compete in combat sports for a living. This particular injury however is actually completely unrelated to his BJJ career and instead came about as the result of a car accident that he was unfortunate enough to be involved in.
Terra sadly suffered multiple injuries in 2021 when someone else ran a stop sign and rammed into his car, although most of them healed over time. The hip injury continued to plague Caio Terra though and apparently a doctor advised that it would need surgery in order to heal properly, or he may not be able to continue training Jiu-Jitsu. Obviously this kind of result was not acceptable for someone like Terra, who’s life has been dedicated to BJJ and owns his own major academy teaching several elite competitors.
Terra is a fourth degree BJJ black belt and one of the most successful competitors in the history of the sport. There were early signs that he was going to be a fantastic grappler, as he was actually one of the fastest people to ever reach the rank of black belt in BJJ. He made good on that early promise almost immediately after being promoted to black belt too, as Terra won both his first IBJJF world championship and his first IBJJF no gi world championship in 2008. He went on to dominate the sport for almost a full decade after that and cemented his legacy as one of the best to ever do it.
Caio Terra announced the news that he had just come out of hip surgery and would be going through the recovery process in a recent post to his official Instagram account:
