Caio Terra is already well-established as one of the greatest competitors of his generation and is truly an entire step above the average competing black belt. Now, he’s taken another step forward and joined a very exclusive club as he was awarded with the fourth degree on his black belt, courtesy of Paulo Mauricio Strautch who is a 9th degree black belt in his own right. Not only is Terra a twelve-time IBJJF World Champion both in and out of the gi, but he’s also won a whole host of other major tournaments and repeatedly proven that size does not matter in Jiu-Jitsu.
Alongside his phenomenal competitive achievements, Terra has also worked tirelessly on developing the next generation of BJJ athletes, and still does. Mikey Musumeci is his most famous student to date and the three-time IBJJF World Champion has followed in Terra’s footsteps by entering the absolute division and regularly overcoming massive weight disadvantages. Both Musumeci and his sister Tammi did eventually leave the Caio Terra Association, but they continue to use the lessons that Terra taught them over the years.
The promotion couldn’t have come at a better time for Caio Terra as the elite black belt was no doubt in need of some good news lately. The head academy for CTA was forced to close recently after coming under threat of fines of $5,000 per class, as a result of strict lockdown restrictions coming into place. Terra announced the news on his official Instagram account in a post where he gave a lot of thanks and appreciation to Master Strautch for teaching him both on and off the mats over the years:
