BJ Penn has experienced a very turbulent time over the last few years and it’s just been compounded after he was arrested by multiple officers in his own home. Footage shows him being pulled out of bed and placed in handcuffs after arguing with the officers. This is far from the first time that Penn has found himself in legal trouble, but it may well be the most serious situation to date. The official arrest records show the official charge listed as “Abuse family or household member: offensive physical contact”. Penn has reportedly already posted the $2,000 bail and has been released, with his court date being scheduled for Tuesday, May 27th, 2025.

Penn was one of the most famous and successful MMA fighters in the world during the height of his career but a seven-fight losing streak from 2011 to 2019 led to him finally hanging the gloves up for good. Many fans of the sport were concerned for his physical health during this period, as the former two-time UFC world champion was taking huge amounts of damage toward the end of his career. He was also seem in multiple streetfights and brawls during this time period as well, actions that only caused further concern for his wellbeing. He’s become known for making some outlandish claims since his retirement, but these were largely harmless initially.

It was only much later that his social media posts started to cause concern, as he began claiming that his family members had been replaced by government agents. He appears to believe that this is a plot to steal the Penn family fortune and has even claimed that numerous public figures have been replaced by imposters. As the concerns for Penn’s mental health have mounted, it’s unclear whether this arrest is in direct relation to his apparent beliefs. It doesn’t appear to have deterred Penn at the moment sadly, as the video of his arrest contains multiple captions with similar accusations.

BJ Penn shared the footage of himself being arrested in a recent post to his official Instagram account:
