The IBJJF Curitiba Pro Championship 2024 took place on July 6th, 2024 and the cash prizes on offer attracted several top gi competitors. Israel Almeida stood out in the lightest men’s weight class available, as he won a gold medal in the featherweight division. Another notable name stood on the same podium, as Cleber Sousa had to settle for a bronze medal in the tough bracket. There were big names in every men’s division in fact, particularly thanks to the presence of Fratres Jiu-Jitsu and Checkmat. The two teams brought some of the best grapplers they had and they occupied multiple places on the podium, occupying the top two spots in the team rankings.
Checkmat were led to glory by Lucas Protasio, who won the middleweight division in impressive fashion. Fratres took back even more gold medals in the adult black belt divisions, with Vinicius Liberati at heavyweight being their only male champion. He had some tough opposition too, as he had to beat Lotus Club black belt Hygor Brito in the final. Fratres plenty of champions in the women’s divisions though, including the double champion Yara Soares. Soares won gold medals in the super-heavyweight division and in the absolute division, defeating Mikaela Barros in the final of both brackets.
Jessica Dantas was another big name from Fratres who left the tournament with a gold medal, as she won the only match in the light-featherweight division. Amanda Magda won a default gold at heavyweight and Sabatha Lais emerged victorious in the medium-heavyweight division, rounding out the Fratres adult black belt champions at the IBJJF Curitiba Pro 2024. Vinicius Lessa was another big name who made an appearance, but he had to settle for a silver medal in the ultra-heavyweight division after a valiant effort that saw him lose to Bruno Zimmerman in the final.
