Congratulations are in order for Bernardo Faria and Rayra Gracie, as the happy couple have just welcome their first child to the world. The news of the birth was announced on Gracie’s official Instagram account, where she celebrated the birth of her daughter on Friday, May 21st. It’s also been revealed that the newest addition to the Gracie family has been named Kayra and unsurprisingly, she’s going to be heavily-involved with the world of Jiu-Jitsu from a very young age.
Of course, her mother is a member of the legendary Gracie family and her father is a four-time IBJJF World Champion who just so happens to be the co-founder of the sport’s largest instructional site, BJJ Fanatics. With all of that in mind, it’s a foregone conclusion that Kayra Gracie will grow up on the mats just like every other member of her mother’s family have before her. It’s likely she learns to shrimp before she can even walk!
She might end up choosing to follow in her father’s footsteps and earn a living competing at the highest levels of the sport, or she might go down a similar path to her mother who is a BJJ black belt but has chosen to use it to pursue a different career as a stuntwoman instead. One thing is for certain, Bernardo Faria is one of the most generous and kind people in the entire sport so both him and Rayra Gracie are sure to make fantastic parents. Congratulations!
