Ashley Williams pulled off an incredible feat at Polaris Squads 2 when he became the promotion’s first ever Triple Champion. He achieved this incredible moment in his career by defeating Combat Jiu-Jitsu World Champion and ADCC veteran Tom Halpin by Decision in what started out as a close match but ended with the Welshman dominating his opponent. This fight was for the promotion’s Featherweight title, a weight-class that is really the natural home for both of the men fighting for the title, despite them having competed at different ones over the years.
Of course, this is the only the latest in a series of impressive victories that led to Ashley Williams being crowned Triple Champion. The first came all the way back at Polaris 10 when he defeated recent Danaher Death Squad black belt Ethan Crelinsten in a close Decision for the Lightweight title, a match that ended up being one of the most exciting of the night. He followed this up with an even better performance against NCAA D1 Wrestler and Kasai Champion Richard Alarcon, submitting him with a brutal armbar at the end of lightning-quick sequence. This earned him the Bantamweight title shortly before he made a change of pace to be one of the star members of the team that won the first Polaris Squads event.
This win marks a momentous occasion for Williams and he used his time on the mic to declare his intention to compete at the ADCC World Championships that will now take place in 2022. Before that however, he has a shot at another title as he competes against a sea of elite grapplers and MMA fighters for the Combat Jiu Jitsu Lightweight World Championship.
