Andrew Tackett will now be defending his new welterweight title against Renato Canuto in the main event of UFC BJJ 2 on July 31st, 2025. This will not only be the first time that Tackett has defended his belt but it will also be the first time that any UFC BJJ champion has done so. Tackett was one of three champions crowned at UFC BJJ 1 and he’s the only one to have his next match officially announced so far, although there’s still more matches to be announced for the event. The other two champions may yet be added to the card and even without them, there’s plenty of vacant titles that might be up for grabs.
Bantamweight champion Mikey Musumeci has already revealed that the plan is for his first defense to take place at their third event, so if that goes ahead as planned then it only leaves one other potential title-defense. The other man who won the inaugural season of UFC BJJ: Road to the Title was lightweight Carlos Henrique, and there’s plenty of potential opponents waiting for him if he wants to get on the same card as Tackett again. One thing is for certain, Andrew Tackett vs Renato Canuto alone will make UFC BJJ 2 worth watching.
Both men are exciting with fast-paced and aggressive styles, and they’ve both already won over a ton of fans. Tackett obviously had his amazing run through their reality show and although Canuto hasn’t competed in the UFC BJJ bowl yet, he has one of the best UFC Fight Pass Invitational records around. He has won every match he’s had for the promotion and he’s beaten some of the best grapplers in the world, including a submission win over PJ Barch. The UFC have picked a very deserving challenger as far as their promotion goes and it’ll be interesting to see how much action these two men can cram into one match.
