ADXC 7 is scheduled for November 17th, 2024 and we’ve put together a preview of every exciting match on the card. As always, the promotion has booked a selection of both gi and no gi matches featuring elite grapplers and MMA stars. Although there’s a ton of action to look forward to as the main card progresses, naturally most of the attention is one match in particular. In the no gi main event, Rodolfo Vieira will be making his return to BJJ after 4 years away by facing fellow UFC veteran Derek Brunson. When the dust settles on ADXC 7, several elite competitors will have made a big impression on the crowd in Brazil.
ADXC 7 Full Card Preview
Rodolfo Viera vs Derek Brunson – No Gi Main Event
It’s hard to predict how Rodolfo Vieira will perform on the night given that he’s had so long away from BJJ competition, but it’s not as if he’s been doing nothing. Vieira has been building up his MMA career and now fights in the UFC, so he’s been keeping his Jiu-Jitsu sharp all this time. He’s facing Derek Brunson too, who has excellent wrestling but has never been known as a submission finisher. Brunson is also 5 years older than Vieira and at the tail-end of his career now so even if Vieira can’t find the submission finish, he should get the win by decision.
Paulo Miyao vs Junior Righetti – Gi Main Event
Paulo Miyao has eased off his competition schedule in recent years but he’s still one of the best grapplers in the world at the lighter weight classes. When he has decided to step on the mats, he’s looked just as impressive as ever. Junior Righetti is on the other end of the scale as a top brown belt prospect who has already stood on the podium of major IBJJF events multiple times at that level. It would be a huge win for Righetti if he’s able to beat Miyao but the experience advantage that Miyao has is huge, and he’s not too old to win a match like this yet. The most likely outcome is that Miyao gets the win, but it’s not going to be easy for him.
Meyram Maquine vs Sebastian Serpa – Gi Co-Main Event
The gi co-main event is actually one of the best matches in this preview of ADXC 7, as Meyram Maquine will be taking Mushin BJJ black belt Sebastian Serpa. Although Serpa has been on the rise over the last few years, Maquine is a whole other level. Serpa won the IBJJF World Championship as a brown belt in 2021 and has since found his feet at black belt, coming close to the podium in a few IBJJF majors recently. Maquine has won that title at black belt twice, including earlier this year, and he has a previous win over Serpa in a direct match too. Maquine is the clear favorite here but Serpa is notoriously hard to submit, so this will likely be by decision.
Piter Frank vs Gesias Cavalcante – No Gi Co-Main Event
Two exciting veterans will be battling it out in the no gi co-main event, as Piter Frank will be taking on MMA legend Gesias Cavalcante. Frank is a popular figure among black belt masters competitors and he’s known for a fast-paced style that produces plenty of highlight-reel moments. He’ll be up against Brazilian fighter Cavalcante, who spent the better part of two decades fighting for major MMA promotions all around the world. He’s was always a submission-hunter but he’s been focusing more on BJJ competition over the last few years, so he’s coming into this very well-prepared. It’s a tough one to call, but Frank should have the slight edge here.
Main Card
Ana Vieira vs Aurelie Le Vern – No Gi Match
Ana Vieira is coming into this match fresh off the best performance of her career so far, as she was able to take home a gold medal in the under 65kg division at ADCC 2024. She beat three of the best competitors in the world in a series of gruelling matches and by comparison, her opponent here was submitted in the opening round. Aurelie Le Vern is still one of the best grapplers in Europe though and she shouldn’t be counted out, as she’s always a dangerous opponent. Vieira is still the favorite, but the stylistic matchup makes a submission win unlikely.
Espen Mathiesen vs Lucas Valente – Gi Match
Although this is halfway through the main card at ADXC 7, it’s got the potential to be one of the most exciting matches in this preview. Espen Mathiesen is one of the best in the world at hunting the back and finishing from there, so that’s expected route he will take to get the win. Lucas Valente is coming off winning the IBJJF No Gi World Championship last year and has been a top competitor for a while, but he’s stepping into Mathiesen’s specialty in the gi. Valente has never been submitted at black belt and the format of rounds will only make him tougher to finish, so the most likely outcome here is that Mathiesen takes a decision.
Henrique ‘Ceconi’ Cardoso vs Javier Zaruski – No Gi Match
This is another interesting match that might be flying under the radar just because it’s not higher up on the card, as both men are ADCC veterans. Javier Zaruski in particular is the IBJJF No Gi World Championship gold medallist at super-heavyweight and has looked very impressive since being promoted to black belt at the end of 2022. Henrique ‘Ceconi’ Cardoso has already had a big win back at ADXC 3 so he’s no stranger to this promotion, but he has his work cut out for him here. Zaruski already submitted him at ADCC 2024 and although he might not get the finish again, he’s still the slight favorite to win.
Helena Crevar vs Sabrina de Sousa – No Gi Match
This match will be a clash of styles between two top prospects from completely different rulesets. Helena Crevar has been one of the biggest rising stars in grappling for a few years now and she finally hit the top at ADCC 2024, coming away with a silver medal in the under 65kg division. Sabrina de Sousa is a few years older but still very early in her career, and she’s done some brilliant work in MMA. She put together a 13-0 amateur career that ended with her winning an IMMAF world championship, and recently enjoyed a successful professional debut. This is Crevar’s world though of course, so she should be able to get the win by submission at some point.
Antonio Assef vs Leonardo Nascimento – No Gi Match
Leonardo Nascimento is a retired MMA fighter who amassed a 10-8-2 professional record before finishing his career almost a decade ago. He’s a 5th degree Luta Livre black belt who won most of his fights by submission, so his style is built well to succeed under the ADXC ruleset. He has a very tough opponent in front of him though, as Antonio Assef faced several of the best competitors in the world. A submission finish is unlikely and it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Nascimento win, but Assef is the slight favorite here.
Kalim Mastouri vs Robson Gracie Jr – Gi Match
Kalim Mastouri is a BJJ black belt and one of the top prospects on the amateur MMA circuit in France, with an impressive 9-1 record. He’s facing a huge challenge here though, as Robson Gracie Jr has been grappling pretty much all of his life. Like any Gracie family member, he’s been on the mats since before he could walk and developed a level of reactions and timing that most grapplers never will. He’s also a 3-2 professional fighter with several wins in Bellator, but Mastouri is almost 10 years younger than him. Gracie will be able to finish the fight at several points but if Mastouri can stay safe then he might be able to outwork him to a decision win.
