The IBJJF Nashville Fall Open 2023 took place on November 11th and 12th, 2023 and there were several ADCC veterans competing in the tournament. Naturally this made for some exciting moments and there was plenty of entertaining matches both in the gi on the first day and in the no gi divisions on the second day. Top Polish competitor Adam Wardzinski came away with three medals over the course of the weekend as he won gold in the super-heavyweight and absolute divisions in the gi before taking silver in his no gi weight class. That silver medal is nothing to be ashamed of though, as he only lost to former ADCC world champion Matheus Diniz in the final.
Inacio Santos was the no gi absolute champion, and he also won a pair of gold medals in the gi and no gi ultra-heavyweight divisions. Austin Oranday left with a big medal haul too, as he won a gold medal at heavyweight in the gi and another by default in no gi along with bronze and silver medals in the gi and no gi absolute divisions respectively. Clay Mayfield won the medium-heavyweight division in no gi after winning a silver medal there in the gi, and left with a bronze medal in the no gi absolute division.
Max Hanson won the lightweight no gi division and came back later in the day to earn a bronze medal in the absolute. There were other big names winning their weight class at the IBJJF Nashville Fall Open 2023 too, as middleweight was won by Johnny Tama in the gi and Dante Leon in no gi. Emilio Hernandez won the featherweight division in both, although the no gi gold medal was by default. There weren’t many big names competing in the women’s divisions, but Vitoria Vieira stood out by winning the gi lightweight division and no gi middleweight division. Chayse Diekema stopped her from getting a clean sweep though, as she beat her in the final of the gi absolute division to take the gold medal there.
