Teenage prodigy Dorian Olivarez made waves in the BJJ world last year when he won both ADCC Trials and a Combat Jiu-Jitsu world championship, and now he’s just won a junior folkstyle wrestling national title as well. It’s been an incredible period of success for the young grappler, as he’s burst on to the competitive scene with a series of amazing performances against competitors with a huge advantage in experience. While there are several young prospects who’ve been able to register wins against seasoned veterans, Olivarez is the only one in recent memory who has been able to do so at such a consistent rate of success and over multiple rulesets.
He started out 2023 with a huge upset win at the Combat Jiu-Jitsu Bantamweight world championship, where he only needed EBI overtime once in order to submit to all four of his opponents and claim the title. With just a few months between the tournaments, he then entered the under 66kg division of the ADCC North American East Coast Trials in the hopes of earning a place at ADCC 2024. Olivarez put on an absolutely amazing performance and beat 7 experienced competitors to win the gold medal, including impressive wins over elite veterans Gianni Grippo and Ethan Crelinsten in the process.
His most recent title has come in the Under 20 144lbs division of the Air Force Special Warfare 16U and Junior Folkstyle Nationals on March 16th, 2024, where he registered an incredible dark horse run. His first impressive win came in the semi-finals against the reigning champion Alex Braun, who he beat 4-2 in order to book his place in the final. That’s where he met the number-1 ranked Pierson Manville and defeated him 2-1 in a huge upset victory that secured him the latest in a series of titles at such a young age.
