The ADCC Peru Open 2024 took place on October 19th, 2024 and it was the first time that the promotion had ever staged an event in the country. A huge number of talented grapplers turned out for the event, no doubt to encouraged in part to become a part of the historic moment. There were several champions and some had to fight their way through big brackets, but a handful of performances were truly fantastic. Peruvian black belt Nicolas Thorne was on fire in the under 83kg division, as he submitted all three of his opponents to win gold. He even beat Gabriel Costa in the final, and returned to make a run at the absolute division that saw him collect a silver medal.
Thorne finished with a 7-1 record and the only man to beat him was Alexandro Tolmos, a fellow Peruvian and the under 91kg champion prior to winning the absolute. Tolmos won 8 matches with 5 submissions, but he wasn’t the only absolute champion of course. The women’s absolute division was won by Leilani Bernales, and the multiple-time ADCC Trials medalist had an incredibly busy day. Bernales won the under 60kg, under 65kg, and absolute divisions by going 7-0 against some very tough opposition. Thais Loureiro was another big name and she submitted both her opponents to win gold at under 50kg, while ADCC veteran Fabio Caloi finished all four of his opponents to win the under 76kg division.
