The ADCC Montreal Open 2025 took place on April 19th, 2025 and there was quite a few top competitors testing themselves in Canada, including one exciting ADCC veteran. That man was Daishi Goto, and he clean-swept the under 100kg division with three wins over very tough opponents. New Wave Jiu-Jitsu representative Placido Santos won gold in the weight class underneath that at under 91kg, going 2-0 in the process. Another big name made an appearance at under 70kg, as Huthayfeh Penney took home gold with two submissions in three wins; while Liam Crelinsten put up the exact same record to stand on top of the podium in the under 76kg division.
The biggest bracket was at under 83kg though, and Matt O’Donnell had to beat four opponents to win that title. Puerto Rican purple belt Anchelle Berrios-Irizarry had the most impressive record of the women’s divisions, and she left with two gold medals to prove it. She won the over 70kg and absolute divisions and was absolutely flawless in both runs, submitting five opponents in total to become the female double champion. There was no male double champion though, as Amr Ghoneim won the absolute division with four submission wins but didn’t actually compete in any regular weight class outside of that.
