The ADCC European, Middle-Eastern, and African Trials 2023 took place on September 16th, 2023 and the first 5 invites to ADCC 2024 have been handed out after the results of the tournament. Not only was this the first edition of ADCC Trials in this cycle of the world’s most prestigious no gi grappling tournament, but it was also the first to use the new women’s weight classes. The promotion opened a third women’s division earlier this year and there are now more opportunities for female athletes to compete, although there were no invites available for them in this edition of Trials.

We conducted a full preview of the ADCC European, Middle-Eastern, and African Trials 2023 and our predictions are echoed in the results of most divisions, although not everything went according to the odds. There were plenty of surprises through the event, as seen by the fact that some of our picks for dark horses in each division actually did incredibly well. Most notable of all was Owen Jones, who stormed to victory in the under 66kg division despite being significantly less experienced than many of his opponents and booked his place at ADCC 2024.

Jozef Chen had one of the hardest draws in Trials history at 77kg but he managed to beat 3 ADCC veterans, including Oliver Taza in the final, to win the invite there. In the over 99kg division, Dan Manasoiu lost his first match under ADCC rules since ADCC 2022, and Heikki Jussila was able to beat him in the final. The New Wave Jiu-Jitsu team members didn’t go home completely empty-handed though, as Luke Griffith won under 99kg. That was one of only two divisions that went completely according to early predictions, as under 88kg saw Santeri Lilius win an invite for the second time.

The full competitor list for each division in the results of the ADCC European, Middle-Eastern, and African Trials 2023 can be found here.
