The ADCC Asia and Oceania Trials 2025 are coming up on December 7th, 2025 and we’ve put together an in-depth preview of every division being contested. This means that there are another 5 invites to ADCC 2026 available but they’re all in the men’s divisions, as none of the female champions were earn a place in the big show. This is traditionally the smallest edition of Trials and it looks like this year will be no exception, as even the biggest divisions have just 50 entrants. The competition will still be fierce regardless, as everyone here is a talented grappler and they’ll all be fighting hard to win an invite.
ADCC Asia & Oceania Trials 2025 Full Preview
Men’s Divisions
Under 66kg
Favorites: Even though this is one of the divisions with 50 competitors in it, there’s one man who stands out as the most likely winner. David Stoilescu has managed ti reach the podium multiple times over here and he’s made some big improvements over the last year too. Without any recent winners involved, he seems like a very safe bet to win an invite. The rest of the field is pretty open but Spencer Quayle stands out as a decent threat, even if Stoilescu would still be the favorite if they meet.
Dark Horse: 19 year-old purple belt Connor Kearney has been putting in some good performances on the Australian circuit and although he’s definitely an underdog here, it’ll be interesting to see just how far he can go.
Under 77kg
Favorites: This is the other division with 50 men involved and this is significantly more difficult to predict, as there’s multiple former Trials winners here. Huaiqing Xu is one of them and he’s an excellent grappler, but he’s also moved up from 66kg and will likely be facing a but of a size disadvantage. He has a decent chance of winning but the two top contenders here will surely be Kenta Iwamoto and Izaak Michell, both of whom have won Trials multiple times over now.
Dark Horse: Ariel Tabak has medalled here before and there’s no reason he can’t do the same thing again, but it will be a tough challenge given the level of competition he’s going to face.
Under 88kg
Favorite: This division is surprisingly small, with just 16 men competing. The clear favorite here is going to be Jozef Chen, who has already won Trials once before and he’s since established himself as one of the top competitors in the world. He shouldn’t really have too much trouble here and if anyone other than him wins, it would be considered an upset.
Dark Horse: Sousuke Oshima is just 18 years old but he’s a serious talent and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him on the podium somewhere. With Chen in the bracket it seems unlikely he’d win, but he probably will at some point in the future at least.
Under 99kg
Favorites: There’s only 15 men competing here but several top contenders, meaning that someone is going to have to miss out on a place in the final. Nicholas Maglicic has had some big wins in Australia recently and is a real threat here, but things will not be easy. Daniel Schuardt has the ideal style to make life hard for Maglicic and could very easily win the whole thing, while Roberto Frias has the most experience and best track-record in the division.
Dark Horse: Anton Minenko has been on the verge of winning Trials for a while now and this could be his year, but as it stands it would require a bit of an upset for him to even make it to the final.
Over 99kg
Favorite: Mansur Makhmakhanov won gold here last year and he did it pretty comfortably in the end, so he was always going to be the favorite this year. With just 10 other men in the division there isn’t really much room for surprises either, so this seems like the safest bet of the event.
Dark Horse: Tito Carle is the man most likely to stop Makhmakhanov from making his second ADCC appearance and although it’s a difficult task, Carle has been one to watch for a while and this might be his moment to shine.
Women’s Divisions
Under 55kg
Favorite: There’s just 7 women competing at under 55kg and former Trials medalist Kanae Yamada stands out as the top contender. The women’s divisions at the first edition of Trials will always be smaller than the second because there are no invites available, and whenever one of the big names like Yamada enters they will usually win it.
Dark Horse: Iris Liu has had some good performances against tough opponents in the last year or two, so she should be able to make it to the podium here. Yamada is still the favorite both in general and against Liu specifically, but Liu spring a surprise if things go her way.
Under 65kg
Favorites: There’s just 9 women competing at under 65kg and it really could go to anyone, as there’s no ADCC veterans or former winners involved. Machi Fukuda probably has the best chance of winning and although she is an MMA fighter first and foremost, she’s a submission specialist and could beat many women who focus solely on grappling.
Dark Horse: Annabella Walker is the one to watch here even though she’s just 14 years old. She’s reached green belt pretty young and has already been submitting adults, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see her make a good run in this bracket.
