The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tour – Xi’an 2024 took place on October 20th, 2024 and there were a number of exciting moments throughout the results. Despite the fact that the action was going down in China, several elite competitors made the long journey to test themselves. There weren’t too many entrants in the women’s divisions and some brackets only had two competitors, but there were two women in particular who stood out among the winners. Yara Soares submitted the same opponent twice to take home the gold medal at heavyweight, while it was Rafaela Bertolot who emerged victorious in a tough lightweight division.
Jefferson Goteu put in two dominant performances to win the welterweight title, winning one by a massive 10-point margin and the other by submission. He wasn’t the only man to impress the crowd either, as Welison Fernandes and Henrique Betta also won gold medals at featherweight and light-heavyweight respectively. They each won two matches on points but Catriel Rodrigues went one step further at super-heavyweight. Rodrigues had to win three matches in order to earn his gold medal and he had some tough opponents to beat, including Matheus Felipe Xavier in the opening round and Wallace Costa in the final.
